On Chol Hamoed Sukkot, 5776, Yeshivat Shavei Hevron celebrated the dedication of its brand-new dormitory building in an exciting event attended by hundreds of guests.  One floor of the building is dedicated in memory of Danielle Sonnenfeld, a”h. The dormitory wing is the generous contribution of the Sonnenfeld and Tannenbaum families of Raanana.

Yeshivat Shavei Hevron is famed for its location in the historical Beit Romano building in the heart of the holy city of Chevron, Biblical home of the Patriarchs. Beit Romano was built in 1876 by Avraham Romano, a wealthy Turkish Jew, and it has served as a lighthouse of Torah throughout a century and a half.  The edifice formerly served as the home of Rabbi Chizkiya Medini, zt”l, the Sdei Chemed, who established a yeshivah within its walls. Decades later, it was purchased by the Lubavitcher Rebbe who opened Yeshivas Toras Emes in Chevron, the first Lubavitch yeshivah in Israel.

Today, Beit Romano is home to Yeshivat Shavei Hevron under the venerable auspices of the Rosh Yeshivah Rabbi Moshe Bleicher and Rabbi Chananel Etrog.  Over 300 students, among them 70 married men, learn on premises with supreme self-sacrifice, diligence, courage and love of Torah.  The Yeshivah faculty views it as both an honor and privilege to guide their group of outstanding Torah scholars in the acquisition of knowledge and understanding of Torah, Halachah, and faith in Hashem. Having absorbed the holy Torah of the city of Chevron, Yeshivat Shavei Hevron alumni mature into spiritual leaders, utilizing deep faith, wisdom, and keen appreciation of the heart and needs of the Jewish People to teach the next generation. The Yeshivah sees great meaning in the fact that the fundamental message of educational-national unity comes forth specifically from the city of Chevron, where the roots of our nation were first planted by our forefathers who lived and were buried there.
