Every year, Ezer Mizion sponsors a special retreat for cancer patients and their families. The retreat is a golden opportunity for the patient, be it the parent or child, to enjoy a well-deserved respite along with his or her family. To forget the constant challenge of living with illness. To revel in several days of nonstop fun and action. To share, sympathize, and be understood by others who are in the same boat. In order to monitor and protect the health of the cancer patients, Ezer Mizion constructs a fully-equipped infirmary on premises complete with a portable treatment room and full medical staff who can provide treatment to the patients as necessary.
This year (2017), Ezer Mizion’s annual retreat was held in the resort town of the Association for the Well-Being of Israel’s Soldiers (Agudah L’Maan Hachayal) in Givat Olga, Hadera. The weeklong retreat for cancer patients and their families treated 130 families— 650 parents and kids!—to a fabulous, uplifting experience that included jeep tours, parachutes, standup comedy, live performances of Rebibo’s Project and Hatikvah 6, and much more!
The Grand Finale event of Ezer Mizion’s Family Retreat was dedicated in memory of Danielle, z”l, who fulfilled her National Service as a volunteer for Ezer Mizion and brought smiles, comfort, and joy to young cancer patients in Schneider Children’s Hospital. At the Finale, Yumi Dzilovksy, activity director for pediatric cancer patients in Ezer Mizion, spoke emotionally about Danielle’s work with the patients, her unparalleled devotion, and her love of each and every one. Other speakers at the event included Rabbi Chananya Chollak, founder and director of Ezer Mizion, and Mrs. Bracha Zisser, founder and director of the Central Bone Marrow Registry of Israel and Oranit Cancer Patient Guest Home that operates in conjunction with Ezer Mizion.
