The Danielle Sonnenfeld Foundation in memory of Danielle, a”h, helps support women and children who are in the process of rehabilitating physically, mentally, and emotionally from domestic violence in the Bat Melech shelters in Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh.
Bat Melech was founded in 1995 as a non-profit organization by a group of Orthodox (National Religious and charedi) social activists working to provide legal assistance to religious women in distress. They established Bat Melech in response to the urgent need to provide a physical shelter along with emotional and legal protection to religious women suffering physical and emotional violence from their spouses and/or who are in physical danger. At present, the organization operates 2 shelters with capacity to simultaneously house up to 14 women and 60 children.
In the first week of December, a gala dedication ceremony was held for the newly-renovated Bat Melech shelter in Jerusalem. Attending the event were Israel’s Chief Rabbi David Lau; MK Shuli Mualam-Refaeli; Danielle Sonnenfeld’s father Mr. Moti Sonnenfeld; Chairman of Bat Melech Advocate Tzilit Yaakovson; and founder and CEO of Bat Melech Advocate Noach Korman.
