Danielle Sonnenfeld, a”h, never fulfilled her dream of becoming a doctor.  (The results of her Psychometric test and score of 768 arrived during the week of shivah.) Danielle’s lifelong aspiration to heal and grant loving support to patients and their families was tragically cut short in a fatal car accident that claimed the young woman’s life while she was returning home from her volunteer work in Pediatric Oncology. However her family is perpetuating her dream by endowing generous scholarships to outstanding medical students in Danielle’s memory.

The objective of the prize is to motivate medical doctors and nurses to meld professionalism with care and inspire them to imbue warmth and compassion into the healing—thus fulfilling Danielle’s dream.

At an assembly of the Board of Directors of Bar Ilan University, the Danielle Foundation awarded five outstanding medical students scholarships to continue their studies.

Danielle’s father, Moti Sonnenfeld, spoke poignantly about his daughter’s beautiful character, her hopes, dreams and aspirations, and he expressed his heartfelt blessings to the winners that they should succeed in their studies and subsequent journey into the world of medicine while infusing humanity, compassion and professionalism into the art of healing.

Sonnenfeld concluded by extending his best wishes to his dear friend Bar Ilan University President Rabbi Professor Daniel Hirschkowitz and blessing that he should continue standing at the helm of the university, an extraordinary combination of Torah and science, for many years to come.
