The Shmiras Halashon Assembly for women and girls takes place annually in Binyanei Ha’Uma (ICC) during the 3 Weeks of Mourning, an apt time to reflect upon the essence of the destruction. While the devastation of the Holy Temple was rooted in sinat chinam, baseless hatred; the purpose of the Assembly is to foster introspection, improve relationships, and increase ahavat chinam, unconditional love, to others. The Assembly, attended annually by some 5,000 women and girls from Jerusalem and the periphery, features inspirational speeches by esteemed rabbis and internationally-acclaimed lecturers who stress the importance of guarding one’s tongue from evil speech and strengthening interpersonal relationships.
The Shemiras Halashon Assembly of 5775 was sponsored by the Danielle Foundation l’ilui nishmat Danielle Sonnenfeld, a”h, a young woman who was a paragon of ahavat Yisrael, kindness and compassion, who loved and accepted each and every human being exactly as he or she was. During the course of the evening, Rabbi Yisrael Ganz, one of the leading rabbis in Jerusalem, urged the audience to emulate Danielle’s exceptional traits of love and compassion to others.
