An uplifting Siyum Talmud Yerushalmi was held on Motzaei Shabbos, 6 Adar, 5777 (March 4, 2017) l’ilui nishmas Danielle Sonnenfeld, a”h, in Beis Hamedrash Beis Naftali of Belz in Ashdod, where Talmud Yerushalmi is learned regularly in her memory and as a merit for her soul. In the course of the evening, an extensive Torah library was dedicated in Danielle’s memory, as well.
Danielle’s father Mr. Moti Sonnenfeld, an avid learner of Talmud Yerushalmi, made the siyum on behalf of all the learners. After the siyum, Mr. Sonnenfeld distributed a generous bonus to each of the dozens of men who had accomplished this magnificent feat.
Mr. Sonnenfeld established the Danielle Sonnenfeld Foundation after his beloved daughter Danielle, a”h, was killed in a car accident two years ago. Since then, the Danielle Foundation generously supports a wide variety of charity and educational organizations and projects in her memory and as a merit for her soul. This Siyum Talmud Yerushalmi was held exactly one week before Danielle’s second yahrtzeit.
Mr. Ilan Moreno and Mr. Shmuel Moreno, father and brother of Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Moreno, who was killed in the Second Lebanese War and whose photo has not yet been released until this very day due to national security considerations, were the guests of honor at the Siyum. The two men participated in the event, commemorating the lives of fallen Israeli heroes Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Moreno and Major Ro’i Klein in whose memory Mr. Sonnenfeld made a generous donation to the shul in Ashdod.
Other honored guests at the event included Hagaon Harav Yosef Efrati, shlit”a, Rosh Beis Hamedrash L’Halachah Ba’Hityashvut and one of the closest disciples of Hagaon Harav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, zt”l; Hagaon Harav Aharon Berkowitz, shlit”a, Rav of Kehillat Re’ut in Raanana; Hagaon Harav Shlomo Chanoch Werner, shlit”a, Executive Director of Keren Re’em and Keren Danielle; Rabbi Elimelech Firrer, Executive Director of Ezra Le’Marpeh; Rabbi Yisrael Meir Riani, director of the rabbinical organization B’Noam, and others.
